Courage

One of my favourite words in the English language.

On Friday night, at Knox College, in Galesburg, Illinois, I came across an excerpt from "The Everyday Work of Art", by Eric Booth.

"Until the seventeenth century, the word "courage" meant more than bravery; it covered the full range of the heart's passions, including rage and inspiration, awe and humility, hate and love. The work of art uses and develops that broadest kind of courage......

"Courage is overcoming disengagement in all its guises. It is the commitment and the skill to participate."
