what I read last night before I fell asleep

Promises, promises, promises! The tongue jabbers, the heart
strives, fails, strives again. The world is perfect.
Love, however, is an opera, a history, a long walk, that
includes falling and rising, falling and rising, while
the heart stays sweet as a peach, as radiant and
grateful as the deep-leaved hills.

Mary Oliver, Rhapsody
From The Leaf And The Cloud

I don't agree that the the world is perfect. Or that the heart stays sweet. Mine certainly doesn't. But the lovely certainty and cadence of the lines was in my head when I woke this morning:

sweet as a peach / radiant and grateful / falling and rising / rising and falling
