Photos from WALTIC Closing Ceremony in Stockholm

Taken by Bolivian poet and writer, Javier Claure

Tiny jubilant footnote:
At the bottom of the first photo, you can see the back of the white-haired head of an audience member. That audience member was none other than Nawal El-Sadaawi, world-renowned Egyptian writer, physician, feminist, activist. She was keynote speaker and guest of honor at the conference. I first read her work in college, and it blew open all sorts of doors in my head. Meeting her in person, in the speakers' room at WALTIC, was one of the highlights of the conference for me. I gave her a copy of Drum Rider, and she asked me to autograph it for her!
